Ducted Zoning is a feature available in most ducted air conditioners. It allows you to accurately control the temperature, humidity and airflow of individual rooms all from a central control panel or through your smartphone. As the name suggests, once you have cooled or heated your room to your desired temperature, that air will not leave the room or zone.
Using ducted zoning allows for greater temperature and airflow control as well as being more energy efficient than traditional air conditioning methods.
Ducted Zoning is complicated and for it to work as efficiently as possible, all three main components must work together effectively.
Zone Dampers are motorised valves installed within your ductwork. Their role is to regulate the airflow into each specific zone, opening to allow air to pass through and closing to restrict it when the desired temperature is met. In more advanced systems, you have the option to add individual temperature gauges so you can more accurately control the temperature of each zone.
LIke the name suggests, temperature sensors sense the temperature in the room and allow you to control it accordingly. For example, if you like your office to be cold but your partner likes their office to be hot, you have the option to do that with this type of ducted zoning. However, as it is a more advanced feature it will cost more than the standard zoning.
This serves as the central control point to manage your ducted zoning system. It allows you to set the different temperatures, timers and turn off your air conditioning at the click of a button. Many modern ducted air conditioners also offer smartphone integration and wifi compatibility so no more losing the remote control!
Deciding whether or not you need ducted zoning can be a lengthy and sometimes difficult process and our team understands that its not a one-size-fits-all approach. Here are some things to consider before investing in ducted zoning.
How big your property is will determine the size and efficiency of your ducted air conditioner. It also helps you figure out how many zones you will need. Zoning is particularly important if you have multiple rooms that you need to cool or heat simultaneously.
Ducted Zoning is an additional cost on top of the installation cost of your air conditioning system. Before investing in this feature, think about your budget and if you or your business would benefit from it in the long run.
Ducted zoning is very energy efficient as you are only cooling or heating the rooms you want and not the entire house.
Zoning control helps you reduce your energy bills and save money in the long run
With ducted zoning, you don't need to run your air conditioner at full blast all day long. This reduces the workload, leading to less wear and tear on the system’s components which extends it’s lifespan.
Adding ducted zoning capabilities to your existing system can significantly increase your property’s value and can be used as a unique selling point once it comes time to sell.
